When you run a speed test on wifi.live, we collect:

• • Place information — The name and type of venue you select
• • Device information — Basic browser and operating system information
• • Timestamp — When the test was performed
• • Optional name — If you choose to add your name when registering a new place

We do not collect your IP address, email, or any personal account information. No account is required to use wifi.live.

How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used to:

• • Display speed test results on our public map
• • Help other users find reliable WiFi locations
• • Calculate weighted average speeds (recent tests count more)
• • Show freshness indicators so users know how current the data is
• • Improve the accuracy and usefulness of our service

Data Sharing

Speed test results are publicly visible on the wifi.live map. This is the core purpose of our service — to share WiFi performance data openly.

We do not:

• • Sell your personal data to third parties
• • Share your data with advertisers
• • Use your data for targeted advertising
• • Track you across other websites

Data Retention

Speed test data is retained indefinitely to maintain the historical record of WiFi performance at locations. Older results are given less weight in our averaging algorithm (25% weight after 3 months) and are visually de-emphasized on the map, but remain accessible for historical reference.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use minimal local storage to remember your preferences and to implement rate limiting that prevents spam submissions.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use wifi.live. This service uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data including pages visited, time on site, and general location (country/city level). Google Analytics does not collect personal information. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Third-Party Services

wifi.live uses the following third-party services:

• • Google Analytics — To understand site usage patterns (anonymous, aggregated data)
• • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — To find nearby places based on your location
• • Google Places API — To search for places by name when you type in the search box
• • Google Maps — To provide directions to places (opens in new tab)

• • MapTiler — To display the interactive map
• • Supabase — To store and cache place data with real-time updates

Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal account information, most data requests don't apply. However, if you've added your name to a speed test submission and would like it removed, please contact us.

For users in the EU/EEA, you have rights under GDPR including access, rectification, and erasure. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's Privacy

wifi.live is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
